Caves with Basalt lithology
Basalt is volcanic rock, and the cavities that form in it —lava tubes— have nothing to do with karst dissolution: they form when the surface of a lava flow cools and solidifies while the molten material inside keeps flowing and empties out the conduit. In Catalonia this lithology is tied to the volcanic areas of Garrotxa, with a very small but geologically unique number of cavities.
The catalogue includes 1 cavitat with lithology Basalt, concentrated in Olot.
