What is a geographic unit

Unlike the county or municipality (administrative divisions), a geographic unit groups caves by massif, mountain range or plain -- how a caver actually describes where a cave is ("in the Montserrat massif", "in Cadí-Moixeró"), often regardless of the county line. The catalogue recognises 79 geographic units with catalogued caves.

Units with the most catalogued caves

The country's major limestone massifs account for most of the catalogued caves: el Garraf, Ordal, muntanyes de l', Muntanyes de Prades, el Port and Sant Llorenç del Munt.
