Caves and potholes in el Garraf

The massís del Garraf is the karst terrain with the highest density of cataloged cavities in all of Catalonia, spread across the counties of Garraf, Baix Llobregat and Alt Penedès. Formed by Cretaceous limestones with an abrupt plateau relief above the coastline, it is especially notable for its potholes, very numerous, outnumbering horizontal caves. The Parc Natural del Garraf protects much of it, and municipalities such as Begues, Sitges and Vallirana hold some of the country’s most extensively documented speleological exploration.

The catalogue includes 367 cavitats (74 coves i 293 avencs) in el Garraf, concentrated in Begues, Sitges and Olivella. ESQUERRÀ, AVENC DE L', amb 2050 m de recorregut.
