Caves with Gresos lithology

Unlike limestone, sandstone is not very soluble: the cavities that form in it owe more to mechanical erosion —wind, surface water, local collapses— than to chemical dissolution. That’s why caves in sandstone tend to be shorter and closer to the surface, but also easier to read at a glance, since their shape directly reflects the erosive process that created them.

The catalogue includes 366 cavitats (317 coves i 49 avencs) with lithology Gresos, concentrated in Tavertet, Lluçà and l'Esquirol.
