Caves and shafts in Baix Empordà

Baix Empordà has in the massís del Montgrí, between l’Estartit and Torroella de Montgrí, one of the few coastal karst terrains in Catalonia: a limestone promontory that rises almost directly above the sea. This contrast between the Empordà plain and an isolated limestone massif explains the concentration of cataloged caves and potholes in this very specific part of the county.
