Caves and potholes in les Gavarres

The Gavarres, in Baix Empordà, form a mid-mountain massif of granites and schists – a lithology uncommon for karst – covered by one of the best-preserved Mediterranean forests in the area, with cork oaks and holm oak groves. This different lithology gives rise to cavities of a particular morphology, distinct from those usual for karst elsewhere in the catalog.

There are 42 cavitats catalogued in les Gavarres, mostly in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Palamós and Palafrugell. FORTÍ, COVA DEL, amb 45 m de recorregut.
