Caves and shafts in el Montgrí

The massís del Montgrí, crowned by its medieval castle, rises abruptly above the Empordà plain and the Ter delta, between Baix Empordà and Alt Empordà. This isolated, abrupt relief, surrounded by flat terrain, concentrates dense karst despite the massif’s small size, with direct views of the illes Medes.

74 cavitats (45 coves i 29 avencs) in el Montgrí are part of the catalogue. Most are found in Torroella de Montgrí, l'Escala and Ullà. Sistema Coves de les Vetes - Frare, amb 545 m de recorregut.

The surveyed length of the caves with this data ranges from 2 to 545 metres. The depth ranges from 1 to 70 metres.
