Caves with Esquists lithology

Schist, like slate, is a foliated metamorphic rock and barely soluble. Cavities cataloged with this lithology tend to be small and of mechanical origin —fracturing along foliation planes— rather than the result of a long karst process. They appear mostly in areas of ancient basement rock, where limestone has already been left behind in the geological sequence.
