Caves and shafts in les Avellanes i Santa Linya

Les Avellanes i Santa Linya, in la Noguera, is home to the monastery of Santa Maria de Bellpuig de les Avellanes, founded in the 12th century at the foot of Montsec d’Ares. This limestone massif, one of the great speleological landmarks of the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees, shapes the relief of the municipal district and accounts for its notable catalogue of caves and potholes.
