Caves and shafts in l'Escala
L’Escala, on the coast of the Alt Empordà, sits on the golf de Roses, with the Greco-Roman site of Empúries within its boundaries as a testament to its long history as a port. The municipality combines a tourist-oriented coastline with a gentler inland relief towards the Empordà plain, where the catalogue of cavities associated with the area’s limestone outcrops is spread out.
