Caves and potholes in Horta de Sant Joan

Horta de Sant Joan, in the Terra Alta, hosted a young Picasso in the summer of 1898, and the village still retains the same Renaissance old town – declared a cultural asset of national interest – that inspired him, now commemorated at the Centre Picasso. Its territory rises towards the massís dels Ports, where the limestone terrain gives rise to one of the most important catalogues of cavities in southern Catalonia.

There are 38 cavitats (23 coves i 15 avencs) catalogued in Horta de Sant Joan. CONILL, COVA DEL, amb 260 m de recorregut.
