Caves and potholes in Terra Alta

Terra Alta, also known for the Battle of the Ebre, has in the serra de Pàndols-Cavalls and its share of the massís dels Ports the terrain where the cataloged caves and potholes are concentrated. It is a county with rugged relief and a small population, factors that have historically shaped the pace of speleological exploration.

The catalogue includes 80 cavitats (49 coves i 31 avencs) in Terra Alta, concentrated in Horta de Sant Joan, Prat de Comte and Arnes. PIMPOLL, AVENC, amb 267 m de recorregut.

Terra Alta has an area of 743 km², located mostly in la Serralada Prelitoral. This means an approximate density of 10.8 catalogued caves per 100 km².
