Caves and shafts in la Depressió Central

The Depressió Central is Catalonia’s great interior plain, between the Prepirineu and the Prelitoral and Litoral ranges, dominated by Tertiary materials poorly suited to karst. The cataloged cavities are concentrated in specific spots where limestone or gypsum rock outcrops —such as les Garrigues or l’Altiplà del Lluçanès— islands of karst relief amid a mostly agricultural, gently rolling territory.

There are 273 cavitats (252 coves i 21 avencs) catalogued in la Depressió Central, mostly in la Granadella, Moià and Lluçà. Cova dels Meandres de Sal, amb 4300 m de recorregut.

The surveyed length of the caves with this data ranges from 3 to 4300 metres. The depth ranges from 1 to 187 metres. 6 different rock types are recorded here.
