Caves and potholes in Vallès Occidental

Vallès Occidental owes much of its cataloged caves and potholes to the massif of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac, one of the most visited karst natural spaces near Barcelona. The combination of limestones and conglomerates in relatively accessible relief has historically made it one of the most explored and documented territories in the whole catalog.

There are 238 cavitats (135 coves i 103 avencs) catalogued in Vallès Occidental, mostly in Matadepera, Castellar del Vallès and Sant Llorenç Savall. MANEL, COVA DEL, amb 788 m de recorregut.

Vallès Occidental has an area of 583 km², located mostly in la Serralada Prelitoral. This means an approximate density of 40.8 catalogued caves per 100 km².
