Caves and shafts in el Pirineu Axial

The Pirineu Axial is the highest Pyrenean ridge, marking the border with France from l’Alt Àneu to the Val d’Aran. Unlike the limestone karst of the Prepirineu, geology here is dominated by granites, schists and other Paleozoic rocks, with a high-mountain relief shaped by Quaternary glaciers. The cavities cataloged here, scarcer than in the rest of the geographic units, often correspond to dissolution phenomena in the limestone bands interspersed within this Paleozoic basement.

420 cavitats (253 coves i 167 avencs) in el Pirineu Axial are part of the catalogue. Most are found in Alt Àneu, Vielha e Mijaran and Bellver de Cerdanya. Cova de la Fou de Bor, amb 4246 m de recorregut.

The surveyed length of the caves with this data ranges from 2 to 4246 metres. The depth ranges from 1 to 571 metres. 10 different rock types are recorded here. Each entry includes exact location, coordinates and, where available, photographs and survey maps, with a downloadable GPX track. The whole list on this page can also be exported as CSV or JSON.
