Caves and potholes in Noguera
Noguera has in the massís del Montsec one of the best-known —and most studied— karst terrains in all of Catalonia, with cave systems combining long passages and remarkable geological and paleontological heritage. It is one of the counties with the most documented tradition of exploring caves and potholes, and where the variety between horizontal and vertical cavities is greatest.
The catalogue includes 209 cavitats (125 coves i 84 avencs) in Noguera, concentrated in Camarasa, Àger and Vilanova de Meià. OR, FORAT DE L', amb 2213 m de recorregut.
Noguera has an area of 1784 km², located mostly in el Prepirineu. This means an approximate density of 11.7 catalogued caves per 100 km².
