Caves and potholes in Baix Llobregat

Baix Llobregat is, by a wide margin, the county with the most cataloged caves and potholes in all of EspeleoÍndex. Much of this density is due to the proximity of the Montserrat massif —a conglomerate that, despite not being pure limestone, has developed a system of cavities extensive enough to have been the subject of constant speleological exploration for decades. The rest of the territory, between the Llobregat plain and the foothills climbing towards Vallès, adds a good number of minor cavities in limestone.

The catalogue includes 536 cavitats (163 coves i 373 avencs) in Baix Llobregat, concentrated in Begues, Vallirana and Collbató. SALNITRE, COVES DEL, amb 958 m de recorregut.

Baix Llobregat has an area of 486 km², located mostly in la Serralada Litoral. This means an approximate density of 110.3 catalogued caves per 100 km².
